Finland cuts development aid by 43 %

tregubbar

The new government of Finland has decided to cut spending on development aid by 43 %. A sign that the nationalistic Finns Party already has achieved positive change.

Finland has like most Nordic countries been generous when it comes to foreign aid to the third world. Something that has been criticised for years by many. The main argument being that it’s not the responsibility of Finland to finance corrupt governments across the world. The key message from the Finns Party has for years been that Finland has a responsibility to the Finns and once all of the Finnish issues are solved can aid be given. A very sound stand compared to most of Europe.

The cuts in foreign aid will take effect starting this year. Another cut of €300 million is scheduled for 2016. Leftist media such as The Guardian have been quick to condone the decision crying about the world poor and other nonsense. Criticism has also been heard from Finland based NGOs.

Representatives of Finnish NGOs sent an open letter complaining about the cuts. Saying that they “present regular Finnish people who want to participate in working for a more just world…”. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, as long as they do it with their own funds. If they want to be ordinary people working for a better world, they should do so without taking public funds. Especially when there are many “regular Finnish people” who have no interest in their operation and would rather see the same money be spent within Finland.
